Our History & Mission
Founded in 1970, Paola Badminton Club is Malta’s oldest and most esteemed badminton club. Over the decades, it has been a foundation for excellence, producing national champions, international medallists, and numerous league winners.
Today, the club continues to promote and grow the sport by providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone. Whether you are a young beginner, an aspiring competitive player, or simply looking to enjoy a casual game with friends, we offer opportunities for all skill levels to learn, develop, and thrive.

Our Coaches
Samuel Cassar
Sam is a national and international badminton player representing Malta on the world circuit. Passionate about the sport and player development, he combines high-level competitive experience with strong academic and coaching qualifications. His experience includes two years of full-time badminton training in Denmark, alongside qualifications such as a BWF Level 1 Coaching Ceritificate, an Advanced Diploma in Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness, and a BSc in Sport, Exercise and Health. He is also currently pursuing a Masters degree in Teaching and Learning in Pysical Education. Whether youre a beginner or an experienced player, Sam is dedicated to helping you develop your skills, achieve your goals, and take your badminton to the next level.
Justin Joy
Justin Joy is an experienced badminton coach and former competitive player with a strong passion in athlete development. Having coached players at regional and national levels, he brings expertise in technical and tactical coaching, fitness development, and performance enhancement. Justin is passionate about helping players of all ages and abilities improve their skills, build confidence, and enjoy the sport in a supportive and motivating environment.
Patrick Cassar
Patrick Cassar is an experienced Maltese certified badminton coach with over 45 years of regular playing experience and an extensive background in player development. He holds multiple coaching and umpiring qualifications from Badminton Malta, Badminton Europe, and the Badminton World Federation, including a European Summer School Coaching Diploma and a BWF Shuttletime Tutor certification. Throughout his coaching career, Patrick has held prominent roles such as Junior Team Coach for the Paola Badminton Club, National Junior Squads coach—leading teams to the ISF World Championships—and assistant coach for Badminton Malta’s Academy. His international resume includes coaching at annual international camps in the Czech Republic and accompanying elite junior players to various European circuit tournaments, notably coaching at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Additionally, he actively promotes the sport grassroots-wide by delivering teacher training courses and leading Badminton Malta’s “Just Hit It" primary school initiative.
